With Mother’s Day just around the corner (Sunday 22nd March for those who didn’t know!), the emails are flooding in, trying to persuade us all to buy this or that for Mum.  I thought I’d do a little round up of some ideas for Mothers’ Day – all of which support local businesses in or around Beaconsfield.   If you are concerned about Corona Virus and going out and about, nearly all of these also offer an on line ordering option, so check out the links below for a variety of ideas from gifts, flowers, chocolates, local eateries and more.

  1. Gifts for Mum – MIRA

7 Burke’s Court, Burkes Road, Beaconsfield HP91N.  (Opposite the post office)

MIRA is my go to gift shop for girlfriends’ birthdays or special occasions.  It has some great cards and a lovely selection of gifts from jewellery to candles to clothing.  You always get a warm welcome there and there is often new stock in that would fit the bill, including the range of “Beaconsfield” specials!  Their current Mother’s Day selection includes lots of personalised Mum products so there is plenty to choose from.  Added to which, they are offering to ship all orders offer £25 for free – what a great offer if you would prefer not to go out at the moment.  If you are not sure what to buy, you can even have a personal shopping experience with photos or Face Time – now that’s service!

2)  BoutiqueJak & Liza

10 The Broadway, Penn Rd, Beaconsfield HP9 2PD

Jak & Liza is a local boutique founded by Sam who, along with her lovely staff, will welcome you in a relaxed way.  The boutique is filled with contemporary brands with a fashionable edge – and this is the place to come to find something really special and different for Mum.  They currently have lots of scarves, bags, belts, bangles, perfume and candles which would make great Mother’s Day gifts.

Jak & Liza gift vouchers are available here.

3)  Beauty Treatments – Lavender and Stone

15B Penn Rd, Beaconsfield HP9 2PD (Opposite The Beech House)

Tucked away down the side is Lavender and Stone, a little haven of calm and tranquility.  You can buy Lavender and Stone vouchers for beauty treatments in any denomination from £10 upwards so if you think Mum would appreciate a bit of pampering then this would make a lovely gift.  Everything from facials, nail treatments, massage etc as well as a selection of products if you would prefer an actual gift rather than a voucher.  If you buy any of the Elemis or Decleor Gift sets you receive a FREE 25 minute Facial voucher (worth £40) –  and if you buy two of the gift sets, you get a Free “Wake up and Go”  Body collection set.

6)  Jewellery/ scarves/ bags  – Ladies Who Lunch Boutique

Ok so this one isn’t actually in Beaconsfield, but it’s really close – just over in Amersham and worth a look for a treasure trove of hand made jewellery, scarves, clothing and bags.  There is an open house running for the next ten days where you can view the wide selection of products available.  Alternatively you can always visit the website and order online to be delivered.

7)  A meal out – The Royal Standard of England

Forty Green, Beaconsfield HP9 1XT

For a family meal in a cosy pub, the Royal Standard has got to be the answer.  Reputedly the oldest Freehouse in England, it serves delicious food – from the usual pub grub to lighter bites and bar snacks.  My personal favourite is the French Onion soup which is never-ending – a whole meal in itself.  The pub is dog friendly and also has a couple of resident cats who are usually curled up by the log fires, so perfect for a winter’s day.  And should we be lucky enough to have a sunny Spring day then there is an extensive courtyard area where you can eat outside.  It is a popular destination so meal reservations advised.

8)  Smartphone Photography Workshop

Jenny Kaye Photography workshop – held at Studio Portobello

And finally, is your Mum the one who always takes the photos?  If so, then maybe she would like to hone her photographic skills by coming along to a Smartphone Photography workshop to find out how to get the best from her phone camera.  I run these workshops from Studio Portobello in Chesham and they are really popular.  The next date is July 8th this year but do get in touch with me to check if I am adding any other dates in – or to find out more.
