It’s World Book Day today, and I can definitely enjoy it more now that I don’t have primary school age children requiring outfits to dress up in!  Then tomorrow it’s International Women’s Day  …. so I am delighted to be going along to a Gliterary Lunch at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London to photograph the day.  These are wonderful events that take place in London, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow.  What is a Gliterary Lunch  I hear you say?  Well, Gliterary Lunches grew out of a love of three things; good food, good books and good company. Throw in a sparkling drinks reception and you have the perfect combination for a glittering occasion – their events offer a delightful combination of entertainment and enlightenment. Their events are held throughout the UK and include a sparkling reception, a gourmet three-course lunch and the opportunity to hear two award-winning authors talk about their books and inspirations.  Those attending are a mixture of colleagues entertaining clients and those simply enjoying an occasion to socialise with like-minded friends.

Tomorrow we will be hearing from Charlotte Bingham (her Amazon books are here) and Ruth Hogan who will both talk about their latest book releases.  It is always fascinating to hear from authors how and why they came to write their books and I never fail to be impressed by the length and depth of research they undertake in order to create authentic characters and settings.  Past authors speaking at London Gliterary Lunch events have included Elizabeth Day, Victoria Hislop, Kate Williams, Sally Magnusson, Sarah Vaughan and Elizabeth Fremantle (some of them featured in the photos below).  And of course their books are available on the day (along with author signatures) so I know I will have a going home present to get stuck into on the train home.   Looking forward to my Friday!
